NAMPA, Idaho — The Nampa Fire Department is set to launch Idaho's first automated external defibrillator (AED) loaner program, enabling CPR-certified residents to borrow the lifesaving devices for local events at a nominal fee.

The initiative, announced Saturday, Feb. 8, was made possible through a major donation from Sparklight Internet and additional community contributions. It has funded the purchase of multiple AED units. These devices will be distributed between Nampa Fire Command staff vehicles and Nampa Police Department patrol cars, with several units reserved for the community lending program.

"This program demonstrates what's possible when the community comes together," a news release stated. "Having AEDs readily available at public events significantly increases survival chances for sudden cardiac arrest victims."

CPR-certified residents interested in borrowing an AED can access the program through the department's website. The department also welcomes additional donations to expand the program's reach. Click here to learn more or rent an AED.

Sudden cardiac arrest claims hundreds of thousands of lives annually in the United States, with immediate access to AEDs proven to improve survival rates dramatically.
